9 Ways to Save Money on Groceries

October 12, 2011 | By Rich | |

Free Money Finance recently shared 6 ways to save money on groceries.  I’ll share their 6 tips first, plus a few more I’ve thought of:

  1. Store sale – Check the store’s sales flyer or website for their daily or weekly deals.
  2. Store coupon – You’ll usually find these in the sale flyers, on their website, or in-store.
  3. Manufacturer coupon – You’ll find these in your newspaper (especially on Sundays or right before holidays).  You can also search online for a coupon from a certain manufacturer (for example, search for Keebler cookie coupon.)
  4. Cash back rewards – Buy your groceries with a credit card that pays you back.
  5. Store rewards – More and more stores offer discounts on gas or groceries when you buy certain items, or spend a certain amount.
  6. Rebates – Rebates are cash back rewards for buying a certain item. Sometimes you can receive an instant rebate on an item (which means it is basically a coupon) but other times you have to request the rebate by mail or online in order to receive it.  These are a hassle if you forget and don’t submit your rebate request.  Ask me how I know that! ; )
  7. Shop discount stores – Stores like Aldi, Save-a-Lot, and dollar stores offer low prices every day, but may have a limited selection.
  8. Warehouse Clubs – At Costco, Sam’s Club or BJ’s, you can often get great deals on groceries but you typically have to buy in bulk.  But, selection varies, certain products rotate in and out, and you have to be a member to shop there.
  9. Buy direct from the farmer – We buy honey, eggs, and some meat and produce direct from farmers in our area.

Anything else you’d add to the list on how to save money on groceries?

Money Wisdom from the Bible

"Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share." - 1 Timothy 6:17-18 (NIV) Click for more of the Bible and Money...
