Save Money on Buying Bags of Ice at McDonald’s

October 15, 2012 | By Rich | |

Buying a bag of ice can be an expensive purchase. Especially since it is seen as a convenience item and many gas stations and convenience stores charge a premium for it. But I’ve just discovered a McAwesome place to buy bags of ice at a great price.

I try to buy bagged ice from Costco or Sam’s Club, since the prices there are better than most other stores. But I can’t always get over to those stores when I need the ice.

Save Money on Ice Bags at McDonaldsBut this summer, I saw a yard sign posted outside of a McDonald’s advertising that they sold bags of ice.

And I was amazed to discover that McDonald’s was selling an 8-pound bag of ice for only 89 cents!

The last time I had bought a bag of ice, at the CVS pharmacy in my neighborhood, the price was nearly double that.

I don’t know if all McDonald’s sell bags of ice, but it certainly makes sense since they all have ice making machines.

And I don’t know if they all sell it for the same price, but I’ve bought bags of ice from McDonald’s restaurants in Michigan and Arizona since July, and both sold the 8-pound bags for under a dollar.

And the best part, next to paying about half what other stores charge for a bag of ice, is that I bought it from the drive-thru!

What’s the most you’ve paid for a bag of ice?  Have you ever bought ice from McDonald’s?

Funny that McDonals would sell ice. The store in New York that I have visited don’t sell them, but that is an amazing price.

Rohit, yeah, I don’t know how many McDonald’s sell ice. But I have noticed that some have it but don’t advertise it with a sign. So people definitely should ask.

All McDonald’s I have encountered in Arizona sell ice and it is excellent clean clear non-frosty ice. I usually swing through the drive-through on my way out of town to fill my coolers for a camping trip. I’ve seen it as cheap as $1.50 for two 8 lb bags. However if you ask for ice at on of the locations that don’t (like I did recently in SoCal) they will look at you like an alien, take a step back, and inch closer to their panic button.

Money Wisdom from the Bible

"Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share." - 1 Timothy 6:17-18 (NIV) Click for more of the Bible and Money...
